Eight

Chris woke bathed in sweat. Red light glowed around the edges of the bedroom window. Panic set in. His heart slammed against his chest and the adrenalin flowed. He sprung from the bed and went to the window.

They stood outside in the street staring up at him….all of them. Chris turned around to the slumbering Julian.

“They’re here!” he cried, terror in his voice, desperation seizing him. “Julian! Get up! They’re right outside.”

Julian opened his eyes and it was like lightning struck him. He suddenly understood what Chris was saying. Sage and the others had finally come. He struggled to get up and tumbled from the bed.

“Julian!” Chris rushed to help him up. “What’s happening?”

“So much negativity… the weight of it…it’s trying to keep me down.”

Chris wove his hand over Julian and a shower of blue energy enveloped him. “Hope this helps… lighten the burden.”

“We have to wake the others…”

“I think they’re already awake.”

Voices muttered downstairs, fear and anger the resonating tone.

“C’mon,” Julian said to Chris. “We have to make sure they don’t get inside of the house.”

Chris looked back at the windows, the red light had faded as the sun rose, and steadied himself. He wasn’t ready for this fight.
